ABOUT ME
My name is Kiegan Lloyd and I am an undergraduate student at Luther College at the University of Regina, and I am completing three Bachelor of Arts degrees. My main historical research interest at this time is analyzing feminist European witch hunt historiography and intellectual thought during the end of the twentieth century. Though I have also become interested in researching the historical accuracies, narratives and material culture of witchcraft, magic and demonology in visual media culture and how they contribute to the romanticization and characterizations of these themes. Since 2018 I have been a Research Assistant in the Department of History, and just recently I have been offered a Teaching Assistant contract in the Department of Sociology and also appointed a Visiting Research Fellow at California State University – Monterey Bay. Besides my academic life I spend a lot of my free time volunteering on various academic committees and nonprofit boards in the community. I hope you enjoy viewing my Wix Website.

CURRENT RESEARCH

My current research project titled, “Hocus Pocus: Representations, Embodiment, Credulity and Imagination of the Female Witch Arch-type in Visual Media and Material Culture” (title may be subject to change) is to not only further my understanding and theoretical knowledge in witch hunt studies but also to give me a better appreciation to the different methodological approaches that academics implement in social science and humanities research. I plan to incorporate traditional historical sources in my research project to substantiate my discussions and responses though I also plan to use a variety of multimedia sources.

My second current research project is a monograph entitled Discovering our Roots: The History of Ukrainian Dancing in Saskatchewan is a community-based research project. I am interested in researching into the role that dance played in helping shape and define the cultural identity of Ukrainian communities in the province. My research focuses not only on the history of Ukrainian dance in Saskatchewan, but also on the experiences of Ukrainian dancers, instructors, administrators and adjudicators in the province. Hoping to contribute to a better understanding of the history and cultural impact of Ukrainian dancing in Saskatchewan and consider how this performing art form has influenced and contributed to Saskatchewan society by promoting culture, heritage, and multiculturalism.
